What makes a house green? Part IV

I’ve put together a list of questions concerning the Energy Efficiency section of the Residential Construction Code for the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD):

  1. Do builders in Virginia have to comply with the Energy Efficiency section of the code?
It seems apparent from reading the code that they don’t. The Energy Efficiency section of the code is if the builder wants to get the home they’re building certified as Energy Efficient. At least that’s my interpretation. It would be good to know for sure.
  2. Do homes that are built to Energy Efficiency standards in the code get a certificate?
  3. How many homes built in Virginia meet the Energy Efficiency standards?
  4. Are any of them in Northern Virginia?
  5. In Arlington?

I’ve sent these questions to DHCD. If you can think of anymore, please let me know and I’ll try to get an answer to them.

In the meantime, we’ll look at some other issues.
