Compact fluorescent light bulbs come in many sizes

CFL Light bulbThroughout my house, most of the archaic, energy-hungry, incandescent bulbs have been replaced with nice, modern, energy-efficient, compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. There are a couple of exception, where the CFLs burn out:  One’s a lamp we bought at Crate and Barrel; the other is an overhead light in the basement. I suspect bad wiring in both cases, but without electrical tools there’s no way to be sure. I’m guessing the incandescent bulbs work because they’re more tolerant. I, frankly, don’t know for sure, though.

Anyway, most of the old bulbs have been replaced. Or so I thought. I didn’t even think about replacing the bulbs in the dining room chandelier or the vanity lights in the bathrooms. It didn’t even occur to me that CFLs came in any other size. But then, I actually started using my brain a little. I was thinking what else could I do to save energy and I started thinking about these other lights. A quick trip to Google and I found out I can get CFLs in lots of different sizes.

CFLs are available for chandeliers. There are 3-way CFLs. There are CFLs for floodlamps and track lighting. There are outdoor CFLs and CFLs to replace the vanity lights in your bathroom. So don’t make the mistake I did:  CFLs come in lots of shapes and sizes, and chances are very good there’s a CFL that meets your every lighting need.

Here are the CFL lighting selections at popular hardware stores (No, I’m not currently getting any bucks for promoting them. Just providing the links to help.):
